GaGa & Go!
An Inclusive Fitness Experience
The Gaga & Go! program is an inclusive, immersive fitness experience designed around the wonderful game of Gaga. Fast-paced and exciting, all elementary school students love to play Gaga. This is a terrific program to get even the most exercise adverse students engaged and moving.
Gaga is an Israeli ball game played inside a walled area called the “pit.” We use a foam ball which stays on the ground and use our palms to hit the ball into each others’ feet. If the ball hits your foot you exit the Gaga pit.
Don’t worry if you are out of the action. The Gaga & Go! program is constructed to keep the action going for students who have been eliminated from the round. Each class features a fitness station circuit, obstacle course, exercise of the week, and a variety of creative team-building group games and activities for everyone!
Students will begin each Gaga & Go! class with a fun icebreaker after which we transition into our warm-up rounds of Gaga. The warm-up rounds come with a twist. Students will be encouraged to perform a variety of exercise tasks to re-enter the playing area. These tasks include the exercises of the week and fitness stations focused on core strength and balance.
After the warm-up rounds we move on to rounds where we try to get down to one player left standing in the pit. If you are hit in the foot you must wait for the game to finish before you re-enter. During this time students are encouraged to keep trying their favorite fitness station, running an obstacle course, or cheer on their friends still in the game. There will also be opportunities for everyone to re-enter the round if it is taking too long.
The obstacle course features activities like balancing, rolling, rope swings, and Ninja grappling*. Gaga can also be played in an assortment of varieties such as on teams or soccer Gaga. After their awesome workout students will participate in a cool down game to end the class.
Portland Kids Gym strives to promote an active healthy lifestyle, teamwork, and sportsmanship while providing positive reinforcement for all students. We aim to give students the framework to take social skills learned in our programs to all areas of their life and future. Gaga & Go! is a fantastic and fun fitness experience designed to keep students engaged and moving.
*Obstacle course features vary by location.
